I'm OD in OD (LoL XD)

Oblivion Dust

Name in Japanese: オブリヴィオン・ダスト

AKA: OD, オブリ (Oburi)

Years Active: 1996 - 2001; 2007 - Present

Oblivion Dust (OD) is a Japanese alternative rock band very influenced by early 90’s American rock bands, but with a trademark sonority that makes the band very unique. They stand out in the Japanese scene because a big part of their songs are written and sung in fluent English.

History

In May 1995 the band Addict of the Trip Minds stopped activities due differences in the direction of the band. The drummer Taka Motomura (who played in the self-titled album indie Addict of the Trip Minds in 94) and the bassist Derek Forbes (who had arrived short while ago to the band) decided reform the band starting over again and taking a "western style". In late 95´ they recruited K.A.Z as lead guitarist and in early 96´ recruited Ken Lloyd as vocalist and (in a beginning) guitarist. They started to make songs and went to Los Angeles, California to record their first album (which wasn't released until the following year) with Ray McVeigh (The Professionals, Zilch, Wild Crash 500, etc.) as producer (he would also be the producer of their second and third album), but once recording of the album was completed Derek Forbes dropped out of the band and was replaced on bass by Koozie Johns (Jer Koozie) as support member in a few shows from mid 1996 until the end of that year, then he left the band and was replaced by Matt Garrett as official member. In that moment, thanks to the help of Hide, they signed with alternative label Cutting Edge (an Avex sublabel) and the name of the band was changed Oblivion Dust, in September 1996, being their debut under this name in November 1996.

In January 1997, they released their first single entitled Sucker. March witnessed the release of their second single Numb. In April the group toured the West Coast of the United States with a series of 10 concerts. In May, they managed to release one more single and in June their first full length album entitled Looking for Elvis. In July, they returned to the West Coast of the United States to play 10 more concerts and Matt Garrett left the band. In September they did their first Japanese tour consisting of a total of 11 shows and 5 extra shows in October.

In January 1998, one new bassist joined the band as official member: RIKIJI. That same month they played as the sole Japanese opening band for the UK electronic group, The Prodigy's gig in Tokyo before a crowd of 10.000 fans, gaining the band a name for themselves. 1998 also saw the release of 2 singles and their second album: Misery Days. Between both singles, they toured again the West Coast of the United States in April. The rest of year they toured Japan and in November 1998, Souta Oofuruton (Furuton) replaced Taka Motomura who left around August.

In 1999 Oblivion Dust released 4 new singles, another new album called Reborn and their first video, Overdose. Apart from that, they toured all year long, playing with other well known bands such as Marilyn Manson and Zilch. In September their official fanclub, embryo, was temporarily opened, and December witnessed the opening of their official website.

The band began 2000 with a nationwide Reborn tour. In February their fanclub was officially opened, and in May their new song entitled S.O.S. appeared on the Japanese version of the Mission: Impossible II soundtrack. In the same year, the band played numerous sold-out gigs; they also played at the Summer Sonic Festival, released 2 singles, a new album called Butterfly Head and their second video. The gig performed on December 23 at the Tokyo Bay NK Hall turned out to be RIKIJI's last, as he decided to quit the band soon afterwards.

In January 2001, their support guitarist since September 98', Masaru Yoshida (May) gained the status of an official member, and the band was joined by a new bassist Ju-ken as a support member. The members didn't enjoy their new roles for long, because only a few months later, in June 30, Oblivion Dust announced that they would officially disband. The last release was the album entitled Radio Songs(the best of Oblivion Dust) which came out two months later, finally the group did their 2 last concerts that were called Last two nights "THANK YOU & GOOD BYE" on September 22 and 23.

In June 28 2007 was announced Ken Lloyd, K.A.Z and RIKIJI decided to get back together, playing two concerts called "Resurrected" in September 8 and 9. In November 7, it was announced they would release three digital download in three weeks before release of their first new album on stores in January 23 of 2008, this self-titled album was available in a regular edition and a limited edition that came with a DVD with the full performance of September 9 gig and the "Never Ending" music video.

Early in 2008, Oblivion Dust had a short tour to signify their reformation. Then, they performed on one night of the two-night Hide Memorial Summit on 4 May, alongside X Japan, Luna Sea, and others.

The mid 2008, the band released the single "Girl in Mono / Bed of Roses" and then announced an album for the early 2009.

In early 2009 was announced the album was delayed because the members haven't got enough time due to their sides projects.

Current support members

* Guitar : Pablo, started in the disbanded GIRAFFE in 1999. He was then a support guitarist for Fake? and for Takui Nakajima. He is currently playing in the hard rock outfit out of LA/Tokyo, Pay money To my Pain and from September 2007 he is Oblivion Dust support member.
* Drums : Masuo, he started as support member in September 2007. He is collaborator of several Japanese bands/artists as J and Fake?, etc.

The Members

*Ken Lloyd: Vocal
*K.A.Z: Guitar & Programming
*RIKIJI: Bass

Ken Lloyd (vo.)

With an English father and a Japanese mother, Ken Lloyd, at age 24, has an international sensibility that comes from having grown up in Tokyo and London. *pantesaaaaaannn.... ~_~;a*

A self-proclaimed former-guitarist, Lloyd's announcement that he would join the band as a vocalist came while in a drunken stupor.

As a message to his mother and father, who expressed concerns about his future,

he printed the message "currently disobeying my parents" on his pick, but there was no reaction. On stage he comes across as a real "natural".

K.A.Z (Guitar)

Kazuhito Iwaike (岩池一仁 Iwaike Kazuhito), a.k.a. K.A.Z (born October 11, 1968) is a Japanese musician, guitarist and songwriter from Kofu, Yamanashi Prefecture.
[edit] Career

He was guitarist of "Gemmy Rockets" and "The Lovers", later formed his band Oblivion Dust in ’96 until September of 2001, (when Oblivion Dust disbanded). In early 1998, he joined Hide with Spread Beaver as guitarrist (although still as Oblivion Dust member). In 2001, he started working with L'Arc~en~Ciel 's bassist Tetsu on his (Tetsu's) solo project TETSU69. In 2002, he formed the rock unit Spin Aqua with vocalist/model/actress Anna Tsuchiya. After producing three singles and one album, they dispersed in mid-2004. In 2003 (at the time with Spin Aqua), he started to co-write and co-produce songs with Hyde. For Hyde’s 3rd solo album Faith he wrote 5 songs including the single Season's Call and co-produced all songs. He also served as a touring guitarrist of various Hyde tours. In late 2004, he created the band "Sonic Storage" with I.N.A. of "Dope Headz." In June 28th 2007, he announced that he was joining again with Oblivion Dust and in early 2008 while still actively working with Oblivion Dust, K.A.Z and Hyde decided to start Vamps.

K.A.Z's personality is such that he tends to get thoroughly obsessed with whatever takes his fancy.

Or it might be more accurate to say he has no time for anything .he's not interested in.

So once he gets hooked on something he looses all track of time and will go days on end without sleeping or eating.

When K.A.Z harnesses this ability to concentrate on stage, he really has no rivals. His performances have been described as "showing signs of menace and individual style".

He's also been described as a "great fast player," which is intriguing when you consider he plays hardly any guitar solos.

Rikiji (Bass)

You wouldn't think so, but Rikiji actually started playing base when he was about 18.

Before that he had dreams of becoming a guitarist. He gave up when he discovered that playing base was easier because it only has four strings.

Rikiji's unique style, in a stance so low that it looks like his base might scrape the floor, has quite an impact on audiences, and it's when Rikiji gets going that the music really starts to pulsate.

The band was without a regular bassist for a long time, and it might be that Rikiji got the job not just because he has the ability but also because, after all,

"men talk with their fists". But, now, He is droping out of this band. T.T

Lyrics:
DEVIL SIDE
Music & Lyric: HYDE

Shake shake shake on the floor

Take take take take me lower

Loud loud loud beating rhythm

Hush Hush Hush keep it secret

Reckless without reason
Defenseless dive on the floor
Baby ready set fly away

I’m in a trance with you - Forget
Embrace our instinct
I want to see your other face
Kissing your lips
Calling for your devil side

Come come come on you’re thirsty
Shame Shame Shame don’t be so shy
(Right or wrong who decided ?)
Talk talk talk monsters talking

Reckless without reason
Defenseless dive on the floor
Baby ready set fly away

I’m in a trance with you - Forget
Embrace our instinct
I want to see your other face
Kissing your lips
Calling for your devil side

Baby fly away from this world

I’m in a trance with you - Forget
Embrace our instinct
I want to see your other face
Kissing your lips
Calling for your devil side

I’m in a trance with you - Forget
Embrace our instinct
I want to see your other face
Kissing your lips
Calling for your devil side

LIVE WIRE (cover from Motley Crue's song)

Plug me in
I'm alive tonight
out on the streets again
turn me on
I'm too hot to stop
something you'll never forget
take my fist
break down walls
I'm on top tonight

No, no
you better turn me loose
you better set me free
'Cause I'm hot, young, running free
a little bit better than I used to be

Cause I'm alive
Live wire
Cause I'm alive
I'm a live wire
Cause I'm alive
Live wire
Cause I'm alive
I'm a live wire

I'll either break her face
or take down her legs
get my ways at will
Go for the throat
never let loose
Goin' in for the kill
take my fist
break down walls
I'm on top tonight

No, no
you better turn me loose
you better set me free
'Cause I'm hot, young, running free
a little bit better than I used to be

Cause I'm alive
Live wire
Cause I'm alive
I'm a live wire
Cause I'm alive
Live wire
Cause I'm alive
I'm a live wire

Come on baby
gotta play with me
Well I'm your live wire
You better lock your doors
I'm on the prowl tonight
well be mine tonight

Cause I'm alive
Live wire
Cause I'm alive
I'm a live wire
Cause I'm alive
Live wire
Cause I'm alive
I'm a live wire

Come on be my baby
Come on tonight
Come on love me baby
Come on tonight
I'll give you everything
you want inside
Plug me in, plug me in
I want you
Come on tonight

Cause I'm alive
Live wire
Cause I'm alive
I'm a live wire
Cause I'm alive
Live wire
Cause I'm alive
I'm a live wire
